Hypothyroidism foods: What You Need to Know

By James Wight

If you have put on weight and are feeling low and sluggish because of your hypothyroidism you need to know which foods will get your body back to feeling great and get you back in control of your mind.

In this article I'm going to run you through the foods which will help you and which will hinder your struggling thyroid. You need to go for foods rich in the amino acid tyrosine. This is because tyrosine combined with Iodine create thyroxin. This is an essential hormone produced by the thyroid gland.

First off, the foods to go for. These are foods which are high in the amino acid tyrosine. If you eat lots of foods containing this your thyroid will start to function better in no time at all. Foods containing tyrosine are foods such as bananas, pumpkin, chicken and fish.

I would also recommend that your diet includes foods rich in iodine. Check out these foods which are a great source of this: Sea kelp, Seaweed, Most Fresh fish, Fish oils, Iodized salt, Condensed milk.

After you've eaten a meal try this: sit in a quiet room and try to really notice the effect the food has had on your body. You will notice your energy levels and whether your mind is active or cloudy. Doing this will give you valuable insights on how certain foods effect you personally.

This is a great idea for anyone with hypothyroidism as it means you will be able to cut out bad foods (for you) and increase your good foods very quickly.

Another great tip and one that I have tried myself is to keep a food diary. I recorded all of m meals and how they made me feel afterwards. I would also recommend this technique to anyone using medicines as well. It's much easier to look back over a diary than to try to remember how you felt at a certain time. If you keep a log on line in this way you can also help others going through the same problem.

Please make sure that, even if you gain weight, you do not try any faddy diets. These are diets that include only drinking fruit juice or only one food group. These diets can put a massive stress on the body and the results are usually only temporary. If you have hypothyroidism you need foods that will treat your condition naturally.

I really hope this article has given you some good insights and ideas as to how you can get your health back on track. Why not start today and you will feel much better tomorrow.
