Yeast Infection Home Remedies

By Jessica QZ Smithson

Female yeast infections are very common, and are due to a fungal overgrowth. Yeast is always present in our bodies in minute amounts and are found in places such as the bowel.

After a hormonal disruption occurs, yeast multiply rapidly. When this happens, indicators of an infection appear.

What are the symptoms of vaginal yeast infection? Females suffering yeast infection usually experience genital itching. Males with penile yeast infection may get an itchy rash on their penis.

How is genital yeast transmitted? Three-quarters of adult women have had at least one vaginal yeast infection in their lifetime. Sometimes men will also get it. Yeast infection occurs more commonly and more severely in those with depressed immune systems. Other conditions that may put a person at greater risk includes pregnancy, diabetes, using broad-spectrum antibiotics, and using steroid medications.

How do you know you have a yeast infection? Many yeast infections are due to the person's own yeast bugs. Yeasts often live in the mouth, gastrointestinal tract, and vagina without causing any issues. Problems develop when yeast overgrows in these sites. Sometimes it can be transmitted between people through coitus.

How are yeast infections diagnosed? The features of Candida infection are similar to those of several other genital infections. Usually the diagnosis is made by taking a sample of the vaginal discharge and looking at it under a microscope to see if Candida organisms are present.

Yeast Infection Natural Cures Many antiyeast drugs are available. Antifungal vaginal tablets or creams are often used. The duration of the treatment ranges from single dose to 7 or more days of therapy. Uncomplicated infections may also be treated with a single dose of the antifungal drug fluconazole. Such drugs usually work to cure infection, but some people have recurrent infections. Short-course treatments should be avoided in recurrent or resistant infection.

Can Candida infections become resistant to treatment? Overusing antiyeast medications can increase the chance that they will eventually not work. It is important, therefore to be certain of the problem before treatment.

How can you differentiate between yeast and other vaginal infections? Because yeast and candida yeast cures other vaginal infections share similar symptoms (like vaginal discharge), candida yeast cures can help you decide if you have a simple yeast infection or something more serious that you should see a doctor about.
