Adult Bedwetting May Be Dangerous

Healthy people who suffer from night time bed wetting are often too ashamed to tell their doctor about this problem. Unfortunately, these adults could most likely be helped if they spoke to a qualified doctor. When we think of people wetting the bed we usually visualize small children learning to use the bathroom or very aged people who are unable to control themselves. You may not be aware of this but a good number of otherwise healthy middle-aged adults suffer from adult nocturnal enuresis.

Daytime incontinence can be a problem with many people elderly people, adult nocturnal enuresis seems to affect people from all backgrounds and cultural groups. It is not only older adults who suffer from uncontrollable bed urination. This medical malady also affects strong and healthy younger adults and even teenagers who have no other health concerns.

There are two primary kinds of nocturnal enuresis - primary nocturnal enuresis and secondary nocturnal enuresis and the symptoms and treatments vary for each kind. Not all men and women have the same kinds of bed wetting problems. Some adults have grown up wetting the bed all their lives, while some adults later find themselves with a bed wetting problem after living decades with no problems at all. There are man various prevention techniques available for people who have nocturnal bed wetting issues.

Adults who wet the bed throughout the decades of their lives are could have physical ailments that are causing their bed wetting. Adults who have wet the bed all their lives are said to be suffering from primary nocturnal enuresis. Often adults who suffer from primary nocturnal enuresis are genetically disposed to bed wetting. Genes can play a big role in an adult's issues with nocturnal enuresis.

Another type of bed wetting is called secondary nocturnal enuresis and it is the term used to denote adults who being wetting the bed later in life. Unexpected occurrences of bed wetting are commonly attributed to secondary nocturnal enuresis, which is often referred to as adult onset enuresis. This type of bed wetting can sometimes be caused by anxiety, excessive alcohol consumption before sleep or a physical injury that developed later in life.

Urinating in bed can usually be the sign of a more serious medical condition. Though it's an confusing problem for millions of men and women, it's important to not forget that bed wetting is a symptom of something and not an actual sickness unto itself. It's estimated that four million men and women suffer from some sort of bed wetting issue.
