Home Treatments Available For Hemorrhoids

By Ai Qin

Who enjoys discussing hemorrhoids? Most people find it utterly humiliating, despite the fact that they are a very common occurrence. They've been known about for such a long time, that there are a variety of home treatments available for you to try.

Topical ointments will relieve some of the itching, while using a stool softener will ease bowel movements if you find yourself straining. By drinking more fluids and eating more fiber, your body will be able to pass wastes with ease. Altering your diet is more of a preventative to remember for the future as well.

Take it easy when wiping after a bowel movement. If you aren't able to change to toilet paper that is softer, try wetting the toilet paper you have. This is a less expensive home treatment for your hemorrhoids. You may also add some lotion to the toilet paper instead. Baby wipes are fantastic investment to make. They are extremely gently on your tender hemorrhoids.

Almost everyone has some ice in the freezer. Taking 10 minutes to apply this to the swollen area will make the hemorrhoids shrink. If you don't want to use ice, witch hazel will also make the hemorrhoids shrink and contract. Make sure to use a cotton ball to apply the witch hazel, it can be a messy home treatment if you don't!

Tylenol and hydrocortisone will relieve the pain and itching caused by hemorrhoids. Avoid using acetaminophen or ibuprofen, both of these increase the bleeding. No one wants this to happen!

Wearing cotton allows the body to breath and keeps moisture from accumulating. Loose clothing and rest will relieve hemorrhoid pressure. Don't stand or sit for lengthy amounts of time. If you need to sit for awhile, use an inflatable doughnut.

Make sure you lie down and rest as needed. Resting in bed will take pressure of the hemorrhoids. If you do need to stand, don't do it for long periods of time. Sitting can be just as bad for hemorrhoids as standing. If you need to sit for a prolonged amount of time, use one of those inflatable doughnuts. You can try all these home treatments as long as needed. The main thing you can do is be gentle down there!
