How To Treat Psoriasis Naturally

By Kelly Limpert

When choosing a natural psoriasis treatment, you'll want to find one that will complement the treatment program you are put on by your doctor. Some people do have better success with natural options than with traditional medicines, but it is important to continue to see your doctor while you find what works best for you.

Natural psoriasis treatment includes the foods you eat, the topical ointments you use, and how you reduce your stress. While you can focus on just one area, it is more effective to include a plan for all of these.

Make sure you are eating a healthy and well-balanced diet. Reduce meat and dairy intake and increase the number of fruits and vegetables. Eat sweet treats, greasy and junk foods sparingly. Supplement your diet with essential fatty oils like omega-3 in the form of either flax seed oil or fish oil.

In addition to using topical creams and ointments that have been prescribed by your doctor, you can also make your own soothing ointments at home. This natural psoriasis treatment is inexpensive and can be an effective way to find relief between applications of medicine. If you have scalp psoriasis, you'll want to try massaging warmed olive oil onto your scalp. You can also add vegetable, mineral, or olive oil to your bath water for extra relief.

Soak a washcloth in a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water and apply that directly to your itching skin. Another mixture you can make is with water and baking soda. Again, simply soak a washcloth and then apply to skin. Aloe vera gel is also known for its natural soothing properties. You can grow your own plant or purchase pure gel at many stores. This can be applied directly to the skin.

Stress can aggravate psoriasis symptoms, so take care of your emotional and mental health. There are many stress reduction methods, so adopt ones that you enjoy. You might want to consider regular exercise, meditation, breathing techniques, yoga, or simply going for walks. Another option to consider for stress reductions is alternative therapies like acupressure, reflexology, qigong, or acupuncture.

For the best health, follow your doctors advice. A few natural psoriasis treatments can provide relief from the itching, but keep in mind that natural psoriasis treatments should focus on your whole health and not just your body.
