What Should Be In A Hemorrhoids Diet?

By Ai Qin

Hemorrhoids have several causes, but the most common are being overweight and having constipation. This hemorrhoids diet will help all three problems.

When you suffer from constipation, you strain when trying to pass feces. It is this straining which can cause hemorrhoids, or make them worse if you already have them. While there are several reasons why you might be constipated, changing your diet is going to help.

You need to increase the amount of dietary fiber, or roughage, in your diet. Fiber is not digested by the body, but it is very beneficial to your health. Fiber improves intestinal health because it helps the food you eat to move through the intestines steadily. When the stool moves sluggishly, it loses moisture and becomes dry and hard.

Dietary fiber increases the roughage mass of the non-digested part of the food you eat, keeping it soft and moist. Foods that are high in fiber also keep you feeling fuller for longer, staving off hunger pangs and decreasing the amount of food you want to eat.

Fresh fruit and veggies are the classic fiber foods, and as a bonus, they are rich in nutrients and have loads of health benefits. Eat them at every meal and as snacks in between. Plan to have half your plate covered with vegetables in a variety of colors for balanced nutrition. Processed food is out with your hemorrhoids diet because all the fiber has been processed away; salt and sugar need to be added to make them taste good again.

Replace white bread with wholegrain bread; processed cereals with rolled oats; reduce and limit fatty and fast food, and added salt and sugar. Eat fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds as snacks. Include legumes like peas, dried beans, lentils and chick peas in your diet for extra fiber and nutrition. Drink water.

This is not only a great hemorrhoids diet; with small portions of lean protein, it is a wise eating plan for optimum health and weight management.
