Do You Know The Benefits of a Whole House Filter?

By Tom Collins

Everyone knows what to do to take care of pollution--but what about minute pollutants in your own house? Like it or not, most homes have impure water. And even if it is not directly pollution, there are still things that are not great for you to drink. Therefore it is important to know the benefits of using a whole house filter system.

Firstly you need to know what this whole house system entails. What is it? Do you hook up a purifier to every faucet and shower head? No--it is much easier than that. The filter connects to the main water line leading to your house and then that way all of your appliances dispense clean water. It does this before it even goes to your water heater, so your house will literally never have impure water in it.

Not all total house filters are the same. There are different ones for different problems. The only way to be sure you are getting the right one is to have your water tested. Is there something bad your area is known for? Find out for sure if it is a problem.

Chlorine affects most houses and it is a big problem. You do not even want chlorine in your toilet water because then the chlorine goes into your air when it evaporates. This can make asthma and allergies worse. You do not want chlorine in your clothing or on your dishes. If you have a lot of soap scum on your dishes, it may be a sign that there is chlorine in your water. Blond haired people can also get a slight greenish tint to their hair from chlorine.

By taking out the chemicals, you are improving your whole over-all health. Allergies and asthma will almost certainly be less severe because fewer chemicals are being released into the air. Your drinking water will taste better and be better for you. And if you do not want to drink water because it is contaminated, why would you want to shower in that same water? Your skin and hair will start to look better.

Some think the attachable filters are enough. For sinks, maybe. But what about your shower? Why would you want to shower in something if you are not willing to drink it? There is no such thing as a fully effective shower filter; the only way to purify shower water is with a whole house filter system. This allows for the water to be purified right from the start, before the temperature of the shower interferes with the filter's ability to purify.

Chlorine is a big problem in most water systems--big because it is common and big because it is dangerous. It is a carcinogen and is one of the world's deadlier elements. It is part of hydro-chlorofluorocarbons, which are the negative things released from air conditioners. These elements are strong enough to break up the ozone. One could say that the 'danger' argument could be put toward any element on earth. This is true. Anything has the potential to be dangerous. But chlorine is used in gas warfare, bombs, and is even uncomfortable in its safe for in the pool. Why drink it all the time?

The other big plus about having a whole home filter system is that it acts as a back up in case any sanitation or septic system leaks. You may not have problems with your water now, but you could have really gross ones some day. With this, you never need to worry.
