In a person with diabetes, the body cannot process normal sugar intake. Usually when you take in food, the sugar in the food is broken down into glucose, which is then sent throughout the body to reach body cells for absorption as fuel. In a diabetic person, this absorption does not take place. The result of this is that the body's blood sugar levels increases. This condition can cause several problems. One of the problems caused by diabetes is feet damage. Let's examine in closer detail, how diabetes affect your feet.

When a person has diabetes, their experience nerve damage in the extremities. In other words, sensation in their feet is reduced as a result of this problem. If any accidental scratches or cuts were to happen on the feet, you cannot sense the problem at all.

Small scratches left unattended can lead to big one like ulcerations, Calluses and in the worst case, your feet has to be amputated. Most often the problem begins with wearing wrong shoes. As a diabetic person, you must understand that normal shoes are not good enough for you. What you really need is to use Diabetic Shoes.

Diabetic Shoes are created with features that help in dealing with problems that occur, when a diabetic person applies pressure on their feet in doing their everyday tasks. These shoes have a wide base and they are also deep in order to give that extra comfort to the feet. This is a feature that you won't find in regular shoes. It includes inserts that can be also removed should the wearer not want to use them. Diabetic Shoes are made from leather or similar material. They usually all have Velcro openings. Depth Shoes are slightly different from Custom Molded shoes. The Depth Shoes have liners running from the front toe area of the shoes to the heel area. The shoes are not made specifically according to the shape of a person's feet. However, these shoes are designed in such a way that they provide maximum comfort for the feet while walking and give good enough feet protection. Depending on what you want and what you are comfortable with, you can choose either a depth shoe or a custom made shoe. With such shoes you can be sure of protecting your feet against elements that can cause serious foot injury.
