Symptoms of Fatigue: Now... Understand Why They Envelop You 24/7

By Dr. Gregory Ellis

The first step in dealing with symptoms of fatigue is an understanding of how our bodies actually work. When we were born, we were endowed with an in-born healing capacity. But, much like a bank account, when withdrawals are made, replenishment must be made.

It is not the symptoms of fatigue that are the disease, they are just the outcome. In natural health philosophy, symptoms actually represent the fight of the body to restore itself to health.

Hans Selye stated in his classic book, The Stress of Life, that the body's inflammation response was needed for healing to occur. Yet, medicine has ignored his findings and uses drugs to reduce inflammation such as fever. It's well-known that fever is one of Nature's most powerful weapons in fighting disease. But, we turn it off and whatever was causing the inflammation response remains in our body.

Inflammation is a fight for health and there are five cardinal signs:

* pain * heat * redness * swelling * loss of function

Chronic fatigue is associated with the body's inflammation response and the symptoms are because of it.

So Many People Suffer from Chronic Fatigue. Why?

We all have the ability to maintain our health. I call this our healing bank account. We were born with a certain amount and we have to maintain it to remain healthy. When too many withdrawals are made, then we can no longer fight for our health and this is when chronic fatigue and its symptoms take over.

There are multiple causes of chronic fatigue:

* post viral * emotional stress * too much stress * environmental pollutants * drug-induced changes in cellular function * diet * lack of exercise

The medical model is one disease/one cause so all these complicated and confounding causes overwhelm its ability to draw conclusions.

Chronic fatigue and its symptoms represent the body fighting to heal itself. Drugs only suppress symptoms and, therefore, healing. That's why there are no drugs and why there probably won't be. You have to have a program that helps the body to heal itself.

The symptoms must be supported to do the job they're designed to do. This is why you need to look at other supportive disciplines for your answers. But, you have to move carefully as there are far more marketing gambits out there than effective therapies.

Suppressing symptoms is what we all want, but is it the right direction? That answer is no. But there is another way. By using alternative therapies that actually support the symptoms, you can get rid of the underlying thing that's causing the symptoms and get rid of both at the same time.
